I featured Nikki, our Flower Horn fish here before. I’m featuring her again because I’m so happy that she is gradually recovering from her eye infection. Nikki has been with us for five years and she’s very special to us. Hubby and I were very worried when we noticed one of her eyes bulging several weeks ago. We found out that it was a common disease among Flower Horns called “Eye Cloud”. We were alarmed when we were told that some Flower Horns that develop “Eye Cloud” die. We found out that in some cases the infected eye falls off and the Flower Horn becomes blind leading to its demise.

We didn’t lose hope for Nikki and asked around for possible medications. We found out about this medicine that you put in the water tank. It cures common tropical fish diseases. After three weeks of medication, we noticed Nikki’s eye gradually coming back to normal.

Baby Guppies

Remember the guppies we bought last week? I was so surprised when I checked the aquarium and saw tiny little guppies swimming. I told my hubby and son and they were so delighted to see them too. We’re amazed that they multiplied so fast. I guess that means the guppies are happy in their new home. I wish I could take photos of the little ones but my camera just can’t take a decent shot of the tiny babies.

This is a Silver Arowana that I saw at a pet shop in Cartimar.  It is a fresh water fish which is a popular pet in Asia.  It has relatively large scales, a long body and tapered tail. In the wild, an arowana can jump high out of the water to capture its prey (e.g. large insects). It often swims near the surface area of the water waiting for an opportunity to feed.

I dedicate my entry this week to my Dad in honor of Father’s Day. This photo was taken last month while my parents were having a vacation with us. My Dad developed a nice bond with our dog, Bruno. My Dad enjoyed taking Bruno for a walk twice a day around the village. Whenever Bruno would sense my Dad’s presence nearby, he would wag his tail and bark enthusiastically. When my parents left for the States, Bruno lost appetite for a day or two. It showed how much he missed my Dad.

This our pet fish, Nikki. She’s a Flower Horn fish. Nikki is almost five years old. We had her when our son was just a few months old.

Here are some interesting information about Flower Horns.

  • They aer considered by the Chinese as an auspicious fish.
  • The forehead or “Nuchal Hump” is the main attraction of the Flower Horn. It is a characteristic that is much sought after.
  • A big, round and developed head is a symbol of good luck, prosperity, longevity and happiness.

We used to have another Flower Horn with red and pearl scales with Chinese-like character markings but he passed away.

Our family loves pets. We have a dog, birds and fish. We also had turtles before. Having a pet is a big responsibility. Before choosing a particular pet, it is advisable to read about helpful information that can help you choose the ideal pet for your family and lifestyle.

This is Ashley, my BIL’s  cute  rottweiler puppy. It’s fun playing with Ashley.  You could tell she appreciates her lovely surroundings because she stopped to smell the flowers.

This is Bruno, our pet Labrador. He is too lazy to sit and smile for the camera but he is fast on his feet when he sees any of us holding his leash. It only means he is up for a walk. Below is a photo of my son, Yohan and Bruno taken some time ago while they were out on a nice walk in the village.
