This is part of my son’s costume for the Linggo ng Wika dance in school. My mother-in-law was kind enough to make it. She even added gold trimmings on the side and green sequins to make it lovely.
I really appreciate all the effort that my MIL put into the costume. Sadly, Yohan got sick before the dance and wasn’t able to join his classmates for the street dancing.
I’m just thankful that my son is doing better now. I’ll just keep the costume. Perhaps, my son can use it in the future.
“Prayers go up and blessings come down”
I’ve been worried about my son’s recurring fever these past few days. We brought Yohan to the doctor yesterday and found out it wasn’t tonsillitis as earlier presumed. The doctor requested for some lab tests. I There were a lot of sick kids and I was told that dengue cases are rising. I really hope that a vaccine for dengue can formulated soon because it has become a huge health threat in the country.
We got the results after less than an hour. I’m grateful that the lab results came out normal. The doctor said to continue observing our son but I’m very optimistic everything will be alright. God is good.
My son is turning 7 years old this coming Sunday. He won’t have a big party at home. We’ll just have a small birthday celebration at home. In lieu of a birthday party, I’m fulfilling his wish. I got him a Play Station 3 plus games. It’s hidden at the other room. I’m going to wrap it later. He also has a big surprise gift coming soon. It is still in transit and might arrive 45 days from now.
Hubby will bake cupcakes for his birthday celebration at home. I will attempt to make my own cupcake stand. I saw a good DIY cupcake tower tutorial online. I hope I can find the materials later so I can start with the project today.
Tomorrow is my son’s advance birthday celebration in school. I’m a little worried because there’s a storm right now. I’m hoping classes will not be suspended tomorrow.
These are my son’s birthday giveaways for his classmates. They are miniature pots with wooden clips in various shapes. There are land animals, sea creatures and insects. I personalized it by clipping a printed name of each of Yohan’s classmates. I placed them in clear plastic and tied them with yellow ribbons.
It has been several weeks since my son started going back to school. The new school year brought a change in my routine. I now have to incorporate review and assignment time in between my writing job. I just installed a white board in the room as a teaching aid during our home reviews.
Yesterday I wrote a simple message on the white board for my son. I knew he appreciated the note as soon as he read it because of his smile. I’m thinking of writing him a note everyday on the white board.
We had a great time at Manila Ocean Park yesterday. Yohan and his cousins enjoyed exploring the Oceanarium and the Jellies. This photo was taken inside the Jellies section. They call these jelly fish the dancing fairies. They are lovely and enchanting to watch.
We also had a chance to watch the Aquatica light and fountain show. It was a spectacular medley of fountain display, lights and live performance.
I guess I’m still in denial that my son is going back to school soon. A brand new school year is up ahead. My former preschooler is going to be a grade one student. I picked up Yohan’s new books from school and bought all of his school supplies already. His school bag, lunch box and school shoes are ready. I ordered his new uniforms and they will be ready for pick up soon. Everything is set except me. I’ve been busy with my writing job this summer and I realized that summer vacation is close to an end. I have to accept that my son will be busy in school again. Soon another routine will be established at home. Yohan will be out early in the morning and back every lunch time. Another case of separation anxiety? Yes but ironically it’s not my son but me who has to deal with it.
My brother gave me a laptop for my birthday two years ago. It was a thoughtful and generous gift. I still have my trusty old desktop at home. My son often uses it during his free time to play online games. I found great online sites that offer free educational programs. In fact, my son enhanced his reading skills through online educational reading programs. Yohan is turning seven years old this coming July. He is asking for a nice gift in lieu of a big birthday party. He wants his own laptop for his birthday. I’m considering buying him a netbook as a birthday present. I can also use it from time to time. Since it’s very handy, I can easily bring it with me when I go out.
Yohan is going to have his mini soccer cup this coming Sunday. I’m sure he will miss his coach and soccer mates after that. I hope he won’t feel too lonely because I recently enrolled him in another summer activity … swimming. Hubby and I took advantage of swimming lessons in a nearby village. The village is still part of our community so it’s barely 5 minutes away. We enrolled Yohan in the Tadpole (swimming for beginners). Yohan had two lessons already. I’m confident he will be more confident in the water as the lessons progress.
I’m happy that my son is enjoying soccer. It was a good decision to enroll him in soccer this summer. Although I admit I wasn’t too keen on the idea at first but hubby (who also plays soccer) insisted that we let our son choose the sport he wants. It’s great exercise for my son and the sport is a wonderful way to teach my son the essence of team work and camaraderie. They will have a mini soccer cup two weeks from now. I’m excited to watch my son in action.
