It’s the first day of September. In the Philippines, September is a sign that Christmas is fast approaching. We call the months starting from September as “Ber months”. I expect to hear Christmas songs on the radio. It’s the best time to start making the Christmas list. I already started with mine. In fact, I already bought some Christmas gifts for my nephews and nieces.
It’s another long weekend. Aug. 30 (Monday) is a holiday because it’s National Heroes Day (a.k.a. Araw ng mga Bayani). It’s a special day when the country commemorates the “Cry of Pugad Lawin” by the Katipunan.
The alarm clock didn’t ring at 4:00 a.m. this morning. I deliberately did not set it because my son doesn’t have classes today. It’s a holiday in our area because it’s the 40th founding day of Batangas and Mabini Day. Today is a special non-working holiday for the whole province of Batangas.
Apolinario Mabini is one of the country’s greatest heroes. He was born in in Talaga, Tanauan, Batangas on July 23,1864. He struggled in poverty but he pursued his studies. Mabini was able to obtain teaching certificate in March 1887 and finished law in 1894. He successfully got admitted to the bar in 1895.
He became paralyzed when he suffered from an illness in 1896 but that did not stop him from continuing his work. Mabini supported the reform movement which led to his imprisonment until June 1897. He later served as General Emilio Aguinaldo’s adviser and helped outline the Malolos constitution.
He died on May 13,1903 at the age of 39.

My family had a wonderful Easter celebration. We started the day by attending mass and we had an Easter egg hunt at my mother-in-law’s place. The family enjoyed the feast that hubby’s aunt prepared. We also attended a birthday party with an Aladdin and Princess Jasmine theme. My MIL made Yohan a fabulous prince costume. She also made lovely costumes for Yohan’s cousins.
Hope you had a wonderful Easter.
May you have a meaningful Holy Week. It’s a long weekend for many of us. Enjoy the long weekend but remember to take some time to do some reflection. Try to make it a point to have a little quiet time for prayer. This is the perfect time for self-evaluation and to go through your sins. Repentance brings upliftment and sense of renewal. God bless.
Today Yohan handed out these cute pens to his classmates and preschool teachers as advance Valentine’s Day gifts. He gave Mickey Mouse pens to the boys and Disney Princess to the girls. I placed cute Hearts Day tags with my son’s name. Yohan told me how much his classmates and teachers appreciated his gifts.
February 14, 2010 is a special day. It will be a double celebration for the heart and good fortune. Valentine’s Day and Chinese New Year will both fall on February 14 so it’s a great day to look forward to.
Every wedding is special and worth remembering. I always appreciate the lovely details that people put into their wedding. The first thing that a couple send to their guests are the wedding invitations. There are so many beautiful designs that you can choose from. The recent wedding invitation I received from friends is simple and yet elegant. It has the embossed letters of the bride and groom’s names on the front and inside there’s a hint of bamboo design. I like the Zen appeal of the wedding invitation.
I want to greet my Dad, my husband and all the wonderful dads out there a memorable Father’s Day. May you feel loved and appreciated by the special people around you. Have a memorable day.
Hope you had a memorable Mother’s Day. I was touched when hubby surprised me with a bouquet of flowers and a tub of Chocolate Truffles ice-cream that I have been craving for several days now. Hubby had culinary class the whole day but I was so glad when he came home with sweet surprises. My son also gave me a lovely Mother’s Day drawing.
