Soothing Sound of Wind Chimes

Filed under: Home — Tags: — rachel @ 5:24 pm

My family loves the sound of wind chimes, in fact we have several of them around the house. We have a big wind chime just outside the window of the living room. We also believe that wind chimes attract positive energy which brings good luck to the home. The sound that wind chime produces is very soothing to the senses. It somehow gives you a feeling of calmness.

Protect Your Home From Termites

Filed under: Home, Info Corner — Tags: — rachel @ 11:51 pm

I scheduled a termite treatment for our home this coming Sunday.  A few years ago we had a termite infestation. Termites ruined several wooden cabinets.  We’re lucky that the termites didn’t reach the second floor. To prevent another infestation, we call our local pest control to conduct yearly termite treatment. There are concerns about mulch termites.  To be on the safe side, make sure you keep mulch at least a few inches from the foundation and any wooden thing parts of your house.

Ideal Lighting For Your Home

Filed under: Home, Info Corner — Tags: — rachel @ 11:11 am

We have an electric fan in each room in the house. There’s one in the living room, another one in the TV room and one in the dining area.  We have a small house and those electric fans can take up some space especially the one in the TV room. I think it would be great to buy ceiling fans to replace those bulky electric fans.  Ceiling fans are great space savers; in fact we have one in our lanai.  It was given to us by my mother-in-law.  It’s a ceiling fan with lights.  I like it because of its dual purpose.

I admire the lovely forecast lighting that I saw at my Uncle’s home. I also saw several nice forecast lighting at home showrooms. In the near future, we plan to extend our house. We plan to enclose the lanai and convert it into a new dining room and we’re also thinking of extending our small kitchen.  It would be great to have new forecast lighting for the new dining room. For the kitchen, we want to have the same long granite counter top but my husband would like to add an island counter top.  He also wants to install under cabinet lighting.

Busy Day Ahead

I have many things to do today. I plan to go through my son’s drawers to find clothes that he has outgrown already. We bought some new pants for him the other day to replace the ones that are already too short for him. My son has grown taller and some of his pants are already short for his height. I also plan to organize and label all of his school materials that have to be submitted next week. To my dismay, I realized that two of my son’s uniforms are of the wrong the size. I have to bring them back this afternoon to the tailoring shop. On busy days like this, it’s good to have some energy pills for extra boost of strength.

What do you do on rainy days?

On a rainy day, it is best to turn off the TV and the computer, especially when there is hint of thunder and lightning in the sky.  Take this opportunity to bond with the family. There are many fun things that you can do on rainy days.

Here are some things we usually love doing as a family…

  • Art Time - This is perfect time to draw, paint and make fun art projects with your child. It’s fun and educational too. Yohan loves art time.
  • Play - Spend time playing with your child. Yohan loves trains. The other day, my hubby and son built tracks in our living room and they brought out Thomas and Friends die-cast trains. I played with them too.
  • Read - Find interesting things to read. I usually let my son decide on what book he likes and I read it to him.
  • Bake - Hubby and son loves baking together. They enjoy baking different yummy goodies like cookies, muffins and chocolate cake. I’m the taste tester. :)
  • Make Warm Drink -  My hubby loves making hot chocolate on a cold rainy day. Yohan loves small marshmallows on his hot chocolate.
  • Sleep - Cuddle in bed and enjoy a nice nap.

1. Crumple some old paper or newspaper.

2. Open your handbag and put a plastic inside. Preferably clear plastic without any print, to make sure it won’t make any mark inside your bag. Then put some crumpled newspaper inside.

3. Make sure the amount of newspaper is just enough for you to close your handbag.

4. If your handbag comes with a protective cloth, use it to store your bag. If not, you can use any piece of cloth. It will protect your bag from scratches.

Sideboard Cabinets For Your Home

Filed under: Home, Info Corner — Tags: — rachel @ 3:17 pm

My mom has always been known in the family as a great hostess when it comes to parties and family gatherings. Back in our old home, we always had family and friends over during special occasions like birthdays, anniversaries, Christmas, family reunions and simple get-togethers. My mom had special plates, utensils and serving wares for special gatherings and those were stored in a dark wooden sideboard in our dining room. Aside from storage purpose, that sideboard was very useful to us. During parties and gatherings, we often placed the main courses on our dining table and we put the plates, utensils, glasses, napkins on our sideboard. We sometimes placed the dessert and drinks there too.

I think sideboards are not only useful but make lovely accents for the home as well. They can be placed in various areas in the house like the dining room and the living room. My mother-in-law has one of those lovely antique sideboards that I admire in their living room where she displays all her favorite and special photos on top. When there are new guests, they often linger in this area to look at the various photo frames. Inside the sideboard is her favorite collection of angel figurines.

Image Hosted by ImageShack.usI think that you can never go wrong with furniture that is lovely, functional and of good quality. If you’re looking for lovely accent furniture for your home, you can consider looking at the nice and quality Buffet tables, sideboard cabinets and other buffet sets at eBuffet.com. You can choose from various styles and functionality based on your personal preference. The site offers online consumers a wide range of both expensive and inexpensive buffet furniture, buffet tables and buffet cabinets for your home. You can choose from wood, antique, contemporary, traditional and china to best suit the interior design of your home.
