I guess I’m still in denial that my son is going back to school soon. A brand new school year is up ahead. My former preschooler is going to be a grade one student. I picked up Yohan’s new books from school and bought all of his school supplies already. His school bag, lunch box and school shoes are ready. I ordered his new uniforms and they will be ready for pick up soon. Everything is set except me. I’ve been busy with my writing job this summer and I realized that summer vacation is close to an end. I have to accept that my son will be busy in school again. Soon another routine will be established at home. Yohan will be out early in the morning and back every lunch time. Another case of separation anxiety? Yes but ironically it’s not my son but me who has to deal with it.
My brother gave me a laptop for my birthday two years ago. It was a thoughtful and generous gift. I still have my trusty old desktop at home. My son often uses it during his free time to play online games. I found great online sites that offer free educational programs. In fact, my son enhanced his reading skills through online educational reading programs. Yohan is turning seven years old this coming July. He is asking for a nice gift in lieu of a big birthday party. He wants his own laptop for his birthday. I’m considering buying him a netbook as a birthday present. I can also use it from time to time. Since it’s very handy, I can easily bring it with me when I go out.
Summer vacation is half way over. It’s the start of May and there are only a few more weeks left before the start of a new school year. I admit I wish I can extend summer vacation a little bit longer.
My son is an incoming grade one student. I’m glad I paid my son’s tuition early so I don’t have to worry about enrollment anymore. I also paid for his books. I just need to go back to his school to get them. I have the list of school materials and I plan to buy them next week. I don’t want to get caught in the school rush.
Most of the kids are already enjoying their summer vacation. Television and video games are probably part of the kids’ routine nowadays. Instead of letting your children watch too much TV, why not let them do some educational activities at home? You can buy activity books suited for your child’s age. I bought my son a Spelling and Writing workbook and a Scissor Skills workbook. The first one will enhance his spelling skills and help improve his penmanship. The other book will help him practice cutting with scissors. You can also let your kids do some arts and crafts like drawing and painting.
SAT is an important test used by most colleges and universities in the United States. These schools use SAT scores to help them in selecting incoming freshmen. For a high school student who dreams of stepping into college, the SAT is something that needs serious studying. The outcome of the SAT may fulfill a student’s dream of pursuing a college degree and it also has the ability to shatter dreams. There are sat prep courses that can help a student prepare for the actual test. Today’s technology allows a student to take sat prep courses online through remarkable live teachers on video and group chat. You can easily prepare in less time through this kind of adaptive learning technique.
Preschool plays a major role in a child’s early years. I appreciate how preschool helped my son build confidence and become a better individual. Preschool encouraged him to harness his strengths and skills.
My son graduated from preschool last Friday (March 26). He received three medals: Word Smart (English), Nature Smart (Science) and Academic Excellence. I framed the medals as a wonderful keepsake.
Congratulations Yohan!
It’s already summer vacation for most kids. Make summer fun and productive for your children by enrolling them in a good summer program. Sit down with your child and discuss about possible summer activities. There are many great summer programs to choose from depending on a child’s interest.
- Sports - There are many sports clinics that aim to involve children into different sports. Among the popular choices are swimming, tennis, basketball, badminton, soccer and martial arts (e.g. taekwondo, karate).
- Arts and Crafts - Creativity can be enhanced in programs such as painting, sculpting, pottery and more.
- Advance Subjects - You can enhance what your child has learned in school or prepare him for the next school year by enrolling your child in advance English, Math and Science. For preschoolers, there are classes that help young kids appreciate the alphabet and numbers by incorporating fun activities.
- Personality Development - There are programs that can help your child build his confidence. Drama classes and public speaking are great programs to consider.
I’m very happy because I received a letter from my son’s school. It’s a letter informing my husband and I that our son will receive thr
ee awards on graduation: Word Smart (English), Nature Smart (Science) and Academic Excellence. I’m so proud of my little preschooler. He is graduating from preschool next week.
I bought him a small reward - a Magic 8 Ball. I remember how amused he was when he borrowed his cousin’s Magic 8 Ball. I’m sure he will appreciate having one of his own. We’re also giving him a small party to celebrate his moving up day.
Today is the last day of my son’s 2nd quarterly exams. I admire how patient and eager he was during our review time. I tried to make our review time interesting and fun by using colorful visual aids such as drawings and flash cards.
When he got back from school earlier, hubby and I surprised him with a movie treat at home. We bought a DVD of Ice Age 3. We were able to watch it at the movie theater before but it was nice to be able to watch it again in the comforts of our home. It was a perfect bonding moment because hubby is on leave from work.
I printed flash cards to help my son review for his quiz in Science. The topic in Science is about mammals, reptiles, amphibians, fish, insects and birds. I searched for images of these animals and printed them in uniform cards. My son enjoyed using the flash cards. Visual aids are perfect educational tools in helping preschoolers make lessons more interesting.
