House Music

Filed under: Info Corner — Tags: — rachel @ 8:36 pm

Music is such a wonderful form of art that is appreciated from generation to generation. I noticed how music incredibly transforms in time. The younger generation today seems to favor house music.  At first I was not familiar with this kind of music. I just kept hearing it being played on some selected radio stations. My brother and his friends seem to enjoy playing house music while driving.  Curious, I ventured to learn more about this upbeat music. I learned that house music is a style of electronic dance music.  It was popularized by dance club DJs in Chicago. They say that house music has a strong connection with mid 1970s soul and funk-infused disco type of music.

House music is very fast and predominantly uses sounds of bass drum combined with different kinds of electronic music effects.  If you are curious about this kind of music or if you are already a fan, you can check out house music downloads.  The site provides you with the latest in the house music scene and presents you with many more interesting topics such as fashions, travel, food and drink, and other things associated with big names in the house music industry.

I featured Nikki, our Flower Horn fish here before. I’m featuring her again because I’m so happy that she is gradually recovering from her eye infection. Nikki has been with us for five years and she’s very special to us. Hubby and I were very worried when we noticed one of her eyes bulging several weeks ago. We found out that it was a common disease among Flower Horns called “Eye Cloud”. We were alarmed when we were told that some Flower Horns that develop “Eye Cloud” die. We found out that in some cases the infected eye falls off and the Flower Horn becomes blind leading to its demise.

We didn’t lose hope for Nikki and asked around for possible medications. We found out about this medicine that you put in the water tank. It cures common tropical fish diseases. After three weeks of medication, we noticed Nikki’s eye gradually coming back to normal.

Q: “I once chanced upon this little girl walking in front of the house one late summer day. She was wearing an undershirt and an underwear plus a pair of pink flip flops. I immediately took two photos of her and this was one of them (the other photo she was standing up so I didn’t choose to upload because I thought it was a little indecent for a little girl). I want to know your thoughts about this photo. What can you say about this?” - Greenbucks

A: I think her parents should be careful about letting their child go out of the house clad like that. Sad to say, there are people out there with bad intentions. Children should be protected and not allowed to roam around unsupervised by an adult.

Junk Food on Weekends

Filed under: Info Corner — Tags: — rachel @ 2:18 pm

We just stayed home the whole weekend. Hubby bought some new DVDs and we had a movie marathon at home. Movie time is a fun bonding activity. Watching movies is never complete without popcorn and soda. We also opened a few bags of chips. I think we have a tendency to consume too much junk food during weekends. The weight gain is not something I’m happy about. I might just need a good fat burner like Fenphedra.

Q: “What would you do if you ever caught your partner flirting online?”

A:  Interesting question this week. Anyway, it has never been my fear because my hubby does not enjoy going online that much. He just checks his email occasionally.

Health Facilities For the Poor

Filed under: Info Corner — Tags: — rachel @ 8:14 pm

Many of us are very lucky that we have access to medical assistance when we need it. Sometimes, we take this privilege for granted because we grew up accustomed to it. However, there are some people who are not as lucky as we are. Some people living in remote areas of the country do not have proper medical equipment in their towns. Some of these people rely on the medical properties of herbal medicines. I believe that herbal medicines are great in terms of curing minor illnesses like fever, cough, colds and small wounds. However, there are some medical situations that require the assistance of medical experts.

Back when I was in college, the sister of my close friend had an accident at a beach in the province. She was snorkeling with some friends and did not hear an incoming motor boat. It hit her; injuring her hip. There was a small hospital at the town but they lacked the proper equipment to handle the emergency situation. After receiving initial medical treatment, my friend’s sister had to be flown to Manila to receive proper medical aid. I’m happy to say that my friend’s sister recovered from that accident without any permanent injuries.

I think every area in the country should have accessible clinics and hospitals. However, the sad reality is that many remote areas in the country don’t have access to immediate medical assistance. There is also a need for medically trained people to be assigned to such places.

I admire and support efforts made by private organizations and NGOs to bring medical assistance closer to poor areas. There are programs and fund raisers dedicated to accumulate enough money to buy used medical equipment. Used and refurbished medical equipment are a big help to areas that do not have the right health facilities.
