Clearing Yourself From Debt

Filed under: Info Corner — Tags: — rachel @ 8:49 pm

Debt is like a terrible foe pulling you deep down into a dark space.  It’s an invisible but formidable enemy that can rob you of your financial resources, credibility and dignity. Debt brings problems, worries, stress and even sleepless nights. One of the extreme outcomes of debt is bankruptcy.

Debt can be avoided by being practical and wise on your purchases and contracts you enter.  Self discipline also plays a major role in avoiding debt.  One should always make it a point to prioritize purchases by buying the basic and more important commodities first.  The less important items can be set aside and purchased another time.  Postponing the purchase of some items can help a person stay within his budget.

IVA stands for Individual Voluntary Agreement. It is a formal and legally binding agreement between a person and his creditors. It is a good idea to get an IVA to garner proposals aimed to settle current debt before it balloons into a huge amount.

A debt free life is a dream of many.  Living a life free from worries and stress is a great blessing that I’m sure anyone would love to receive. Don’t make the mistake of getting trapped in a deep sea of debt.  Avoid the possibility of bankruptcy by managing your finances and debt obligations.

A child often becomes curious and motivate to explore and try to gradually do some things on his own between two to three years of age. Encourage your child to enjoy discovering new things around him with proper supervision. A child can learn a lot of things through experience. Try not to set a reasonable boundary in terms of self discovery. Although it is encouraging to see a child realize the exciting aspect of discovery, parents should always be on the look out. Child proof your house by removing potential dangers such as putting away medicines and harmful household cleaners, padding sharp furniture edges and covering electrical outlets.

A few days ago, I saw a small crowd, an ambulance, a police car and a wrecked six wheeler truck along Star Tollway. It looked like a terrible accident because the front of the huge truck was terribly damaged. Apparently the truck hit one of the big posts of the bridge along the Star Tollway. It’s always sad whenever I learn of such accidents. I just hope that the people inside the truck escaped with only minor injuries.

As your child grows older, help him or her understand the concepts of needs and wants. Help your child distinguish between the two. Set concrete examples and categorize them accordingly.

Need pertains to important things in life that are important for survival. Want refers to a desire to have something that is not necessarily important to every day living. For example …

I need food, water, air and shelter.

I want a new toy.

As soon as a child learns how to count, you can gradually introduce him to the concept of money. Explain to him that money is not something that is always available inside your wallet or bag. Let them know that money is earned by working hard.

Teach children about the importance of saving money. Buy your child a cute piggy bank and encourage him to save his coins by dropping them inside the piggy bank.

For very young children, encourage savings creatively. You can tell you child that dropping coins inside the piggy bank is like feeding a pet pig. Each time a coin is dropped inside, the pig becomes happy. The more coins results to a happier pig.
