I remember several years ago, my uncle suddenly arrived at our house with an injured arm. At that time my uncle was working as a maritime engineer staff. He was working with some equipment inside the ship when suddenly a part of the equipment got dislodged and hit his arm. His right arm got severely injured that he had to undergo an operation. A piece of steel was inserted in his arm to facilitate healing. Part of the steel was actually protruding from his arm which made him unable to continue his duties on board the ship. My uncle was forced to go home without finishing his contract. The sad part was that the maritime company did not shoulder all of his medical expenses. My uncle had to pay for some of his treatment and medicines. He was forced to go on leave because he couldn’t carry out his duties at work. After resting at our house for a day, he went home to the province to be with his family. During the duration of his stay in the province, my uncle did not receive proper compensation from the maritime company. He had to use part of his savings to continue medical treatment and pay for everyday expenses at home.
